It's so good to see you again.

Ok sooooo it has been way to long since I posted on here. I don't even know where to begin....or do I?

Football:First well talk the most important sport in Aggieland, football. The Ags hauled in a decent recruiting class, actually pretty good if you consider the coaching changes and the way things had gone under the Fran era. The crown jewels were Cryus Gray and Rod Davis. Gray is a potential game breaking back and could see some serious time on special teams early on. Davis is a top notch defensive lineman and could help being back some swagger to the hurting wrecking crew defense. Also yesterday it surfaced that 4-Star WR Sedrick Johnson's LOI to Iowa State may not be legally binding and he may be persuaded by his moma to stay close to home and go to Texas A&M. That’s something we'll have to keep an eye on.

Basketball: Last time I left you Aggie basketball was not in a good state. The Ags had lost 3 in a row, including a physically and emotionally draining 5 OT loss to in state rival Baylor. Since then Coach Turge and the boys have turned things around. After losing their first 3 true road games, the boys have won their last 3. They also boast solid home wins over a very good Oklahoma team (pre Longar Longar injury) and of course the great win over archrival t.u. The Aggies seemed to have solidified a place in the NCAA tourney if this trend keeps up. The only question might be what seed will they get. Also after road losses for KU (@ t.u.) and K-State (@ tech) the Aggies are only one game out of first in the Big 12 but trail KU, K-State, and t.u. who are all tied for first. I doubt it will happen but there is a chance that the season finally game against Kansas at Reed could be for all the regular season marbles. Tomorrow night the Aggies have a tough test against an Oklahoma State team that gives everyone a run for their money but can't quite seem to get a win and after that the Aggies head down to Austin for Big Monday on ESPN. The surging horns would love to avenge their earlier loss to the Aggies when they not only lost the game but seemingly lost their composure. Hopefully the Ags can break the recent seasons trend of each home team winning in the Lone Star Showdown.

Baseball: Ok, now we can finally talk about my favorite spring time sport. The Aggies haven’t started the season yet, but there is an inter squad scrimmage (weather permitting) at 1:00 tomorrow. The Ags do start of the season February 22nd against Northern Colorado, when they start a 4 game weekend series which includes a Saturday afternoon double header. The Aggies have a lot of momentum under head coach Rob Childress coming into the 2008 season. After a sub par first season for Coach, the Aggies launched themselves back into the national spotlight with wins over traditional powers Rice and t.u. and a regular season win over reigning back to back national champion Oregon state. The boys ended up winning the Big 12 Tournament, hosted and regional and went on to lose in a very competitive super regional to Rice down the road at Reckling Park. The Aggies return first team All-American Blake Stouffer, power hitter Luke Anders, and couple of solid, speedy outfielders in Ben Feltner and Kyle Colligan. The Ags also have a solid young pitching staff led by last years post season hero Kyle Thebeau and a promising young pitcher Scott Migil. Rob Childress, who was the pitching coach/guru for national power Nebraska before taking the A&M job, should help this young pitching staff develop into something solid in the always hostile Big 12.

Looks like that’s it for now, I'll try and do a better job on this thing as the semester starts to settle down.

Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake...

Never Ending Story

Its been awhile since we last spoke, my comments box has been flooded with complaints over the lack of quality blogging I've been doing as of late. Well know the rush of the new school year has calmed down. I'm back and angrier than ever.

When I last discussed the topic of Aggie basketball, I had mentioned how A&M's only true road test was in Arizona when the Ags blew that huge lead...since then things have gotten much worse. We opened Big 12 play as expected, a dominating 20 point win over the Colorado Buffs, then the wheels fell off. Since the win A&M has dropped its next 3 games. Blow out road losses to Tech and K-State...and then....last nights devastating and draining 5 OT loss to Baylor. Seriously it was the longest basketball game I've ever seen. I still cant feel my feet and I hope to never sit through 5 OTs again. After regulation the Baylor fans could have driven back to Waco before the game had actually ended.

So here's the deal, remember last year when Ok-State and Texas played in that 3 OT thriller? Yea well OSU was ranked 13th at that point. They barely made the NIT, see where I'm going with this? If A&M doesn't right the ship, and right it soon...well were going to be playing some post season games at Reed and looking to go back to MSG. Our problem is the Aggies look real good on paper (paper tigers if you will), but when we get down we panic. ::Sigh:: I could bore you will the Xs and Os, but lets be for real. We are getting out hustled, out coached, out shot, out rebounded.

This team has potential, and we can still make a run in the tourney. The Ags need to find a leader, get back on a winning streak, and not settle for less. They can it done, but if not BASEBALL STARTS FEBRUARY 22nd!!!! Whoop

A&M is a (insert sport we don't suck at) School!

I feel the need, the need for speed

"I think we have to get faster," Sherman said. "I don't think we're fast enough, particularly on defense."

Yes indeed my friends, Sherman got it right during his first press conference since beginning his full time job as head coach at Texas A&M. After seeing a second straight BCS title game dominated by an incredible fast SEC team, there should be no doubt in any college football fans minds that to win big these days you have to play fast, wide open, athletic football. Gone are the glory days of "three yards and a cloud of dust." We have already ushered in a new are of college football and its time for A&M to adapt. This isn't Sherman's first rodeo, he knows that if he wants to come in and compete with Mack, Stoops, and hell even Leach, then he is going to have to not only out coach the guys, his players will have to out quick the others too.

In 1968 former Texas A&M head coach Emory Bellard invented the vaunted wishbone offense (Unfortunately at the time of the invention Bellard was coaching for DKR and those boys down in Austin). Well you see for those you who aren't old enough to remember, the sips took that offense and revolutionized college football. So if you really love the game at this level then sit back and enjoy the ride because after Urban Myer led his Utah team to an undefeated season we got ourselves a little bit of offensive revolution right here in the 21st century. The style of spread 'em out offenses wasn't invented by Urban, but he sure did make it popular. We know that drunk pirate in Lubbock had been running a similar style for awhile and of course everybody had a love/hate relationship with the Ol' Ball Coach's "Fun and Gun" down in the Swamps of Florida, but the thing is after Myer ran it everyone and there dog started implementing some form of spread into their game plan. Coach Dodge up at Southlake built himself a dynasty running it on the high school level, Missouri went for it on 4th and goal against the Sooners in this years Big 12 Championship..and no my friends they did not line up in a goaline formation they spread them out five wide and threw for it, and then there was our favorite story of the year...App State pulled of the greatest upset in recent history over Michigan because they were able to spread them out and run around or between them. Which brings us to me to my final point. The Big 10 no longer dominates football like they once did. Many critics consider them to be the weakest of the BCS conferences. Not because they only sport a handful of teams that spread it out, but because they lack the speed of other teams to defend it when they play legit out of conference games. Now you may be thinking "We may not even run a spread option" and we very well may not...but I do know this, if you want to hear the students chanting "Wrecking Crew!" any time soon at Kyle, you better hope that General Sherman is able to recruit speed....cause we sure as hell are going to need it if we want to stop anybody.

A Blog By Any Other Name Would Be Half as Cool

So heres the deal, I get it....my blog title doesn’t make much sense..or...does it!?

Well as we all know that a few days before the Alamo Bowl, our lovely Yell Leaders became infamous...Sadly, Flecther called out JoePa for being a tad bit old. Maybe this was the truth, maybe not...isn’t age relative?....regardless this did not sit well with a national media that has a very justified love affair with JoePa. Hell! I love the Yell Boys and it didn’t sit well with me either. Anyways I’m rambling on...the Yell Leaders are a proud tradition here at A&M and something all Aggies should be proud of, but at the same time we also need to be able to poke fun at ourselves (the best Aggie jokes are told by Aggies) So when I think about all the jokes about not having cheerleaders and dumb comments that come out of some yell boys mouths, I also must remember that a lot of the stuff they do looks and sounds ridiculous, so its hard to blame people......So I bestow upon them the great honor of being the namesakes of my blog....kinda ; )

1 love

Day 1

Lets go ahead and get this thing started...

We are in a dark time for sports this time of year, with only a few weeks of NFL football to enjoy, no College Football BCS fiasco to debate, and no baseball (not even spring training!) To discuss this leaves us with very little to rant and rave about. So we turn our attention to College Station's second son, thats right the one played on the hardwood.... basketball!

Our beloved Fightin' Farmers are ranked a lofty 10th place in the nation and sportin a fancy 14-1 record. That's right folks 14-1, the second best starting record in school history and all that under first year head coach Mark Turgeon...he's getting it done albeit with Billy's boys. This kind of a start should be no surprise to Ags anymore. After suffering through a well publicized "Dark Age" believe it or not there are actually people willing to pay to watch a maroon and white clad team throw the orange ball through a hoop. However with wins over NCAA juggernauts like Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas-Pine Bluff its hard to tell how gritty this new breed of Aggie basketball is. Yes, yes, yes spare me the Preseason NIT Championship talk. While the trip to New York was a great learning experience for this young Aggie team, all they really did was beat some overrated Washington and Ohio State squads on a neutral court.

The one other time the Aggies did decided to make a trip out of Brazos Valley, they fell the Arizona Wildcats and then interim head coach Kevin O'Neill. The Ags squandered an early 20-point lead while getting outscored by the Cats 50 -27 in the second half. Lucky for us, the Ags can chalk this up to a learning experience and hopefully make a run at the Big 12 title.

So there we have it, non-conference is all wrapped up, the boys open Big 12 play with the daunting task of facing the Colorado Buffaloes ::snicker:: in Reed Arena this Saturday. Hopefully the gauntlet that is the Big 12 regular season will get them ready for the big dance come march. Until then you can find me in the student section with a bucket of popcorn watching DeAndre Jordan dunk of poor unsuspecting fools.

Happy Hunting
